Hot Shots Golf Fore!

Developed by Clap Hanz, The Minna no Golf (Everybody’s Golf) series aka Hot Shots Golf has always been popular around the world, known for its comical characters and fun arcade/sim type gameplay. The latest installment, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational, has been available since last year, which is a very great game by the way, but we thought we should look back at the one in the series that has made the biggest impact for us.

Driving/Putting the ball is easy to do. A power meter shows up at the bottom, along with other information like what club you’re using, wind direction/speed, elevation, among other details on the screen. If you selected the default mode for hitting the ball, you’ll first start swinging by pressing the X button. This gets the power meter moving. Once it’s in the range, you’ll to want to press the X button again to confirm it. You’re going to need to press the button one last time to set how you want the ball to react when hit upon. The bar shows when you should press the button. If you’re not too careful with your accuracy, expect the ball to land on rough stuff. There’s some more advanced techniques you can perform, like the power shot and spinning the ball. For players who don’t want to deal with wind effects, there’s an easy mode that just takes two clicks to hit a perfect straight ball, but without the ability to curve it. So find a hitting mode you like and hit the greens!

Don’t be fooled by its looks. Hot Shots Golf Fore! has a lot to offer in the gameplay department. The game has a great physics engine, varying winds/weather, elevation, hazards, and timing of shots that all affect the outcome. Trust me. You will get addicted playing this game! The visual presentation is beautiful too! Everything feels so real that it makes you think you are actually there in the course. The trees sway in the breeze, the waters have an endless ripple effect, and insects roam around the grass. What makes the environments even more lively is the crowd interactions and the caddies. Their hilarious comments like,”Put it in the oven!” will make you laugh throughout the game. You’ll recognize popular voice actors such as Steve Blum, Tara Strong, and James Arnold Taylor who voices Ratchet in the game.

If you’re looking for a great golfing experience without having to embarrass yourself with the real thing, then this game is for you. It’s the perfect game to play if you just want to relax and take a break from leveling up or fighting big bosses, so do yourself a favor and pick up this awesome game. You won’t regret it.

Pros: Variety of courses, gameplay, realistic golf physics, mini golf, replay value, nice music, tons of unlockables, online mode, funny characters.
