Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury
Missiles, fruits, robots, and ants! Welcome to the world of Bangai-O HD Missile Fury for the XBLA! Developed by Treasure, Bangai-O is 2D side-scrolling shooter that uses dual-stick controls. You’re constantly under attack from a barrage of enemies. Just shooting your way through will get you nowhere fast. Fortunately, this little mech has some skills!
Bangai-O can be equipped with two types of weapons at a time. Some weapons available are Normal/Homing Missiles, Bounce/Fast Lasers and Napalm Missiles. The moves you will need to get accustomed to are the Freeze, Dash, and Counter Attacks. Learning these moves is crucial to your survival. The freeze attack will make you invincible and freeze enemies that are enclosed in the inner yellow circle. This move uses one level of your dash meter. With a dash attack you’re invincible while attacking. Enemies will be damaged and you’ll be shielded from weapon fire. Like the freeze attack, this move will also use one level of your dash meter. You can continue the dash attack as long as you have enough dash levels. The Dash Gauge will fully recover when you deal a counter attack, or 3 seconds after invincibility mode ends.
The graphics of Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury look great! The vibrant colors strike at you, especially with all the ridiculous amount of missiles flying everywhere. The best part about the graphics is the lack of slowdown or lag in Bangai-O. It’s impressive with all of the explosive action going on. Older Bangi-O games (N64/Dreamcast) would have lag issues that would put a damper on the overall enjoyment of the game. Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury doesn’t have any of these issues. All of the action is fluid and stays at a constant frame rate throughout the game.
Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury is a unique and challenging game. It might take some time to get used to due to the difficulty. Once you get used to it you won’t be able to put the controller down. There’s a lot to offer with the game as well; good variety of levels, online multiplayer, and a level editor. The only thing that might be disappointing is the small amount of lag during multiplayer. But that’s expected with the crazy amount of stuff going on the screen at once.
If you’d like to try something different and challenging, Bangai-O HD has you covered. Just make sure to take your time learning the basics of the gameplay. Once you do you’ll have a gaming experience that few games can offer. This is true especially in the action/ puzzle genre. I recommend you try the trial and see if blowing up robots and collecting fruits is your kind of thing.
Pros: Controls, level editor, challenging gameplay, triumphic tunes, no slowdown
Cons: Some lag in multiplayer, might be too difficult for some gamers
